My Art Institute Assignment

Week 5, Assignment 1

• Message and Audience: What is the message or theme of your final project? What is the intended audience? Why are you pursuing these goals?
• Visual Elements: How will you use the elements of design to communicate this message?
• What type of balance, line, composition, color, etc. will communicate the design’s theme to the intended audience? Will you use Gestalt principles to suggest recognizable shapes or patterns?
• What type of spatial arrangement will you use and why? Will you use visual elements to create three-dimensional depth and volume, or will the design be essentially flat and two-dimensional? Will the objects be textured or smooth?
• What challenges do you anticipate in executing your final project? How do you plan on overcoming these challenges?
This assignment took me to a lot of soul searching and prayer asking GOD to help me to bring HIS message of Hope in this Dark world that we live in. I was really struggling with what to do for this assignment and I believe the LORD put this on my heart and in my mind to present this composition (form) with HIS message of HOPE. The lesson from this week about value which is light and darkness is exactly the message the LORD is revealing to us in HIS WORD. We are very valuable to HIM; HE loves HIS creation so much that HE gave His only begotten SON who is the LIGHT of this world, to die on a cross to pay for our sin debt. What a loving and awesome GOD we have. HE gave it all so that mankind might be free and forgiven. The past four weeks of lessons are also quite relevant to this assignment. My heart is to portray this message through the (form) HE has put in my mind and heart to share with the world and whosoever will believe and call upon the name of the LORD JESUS CHRIST shall be saved.
My form starts with the focal point as being the door of our hearts and all we have to do is open that door of our hearts and let HIM in. He wants so much for us to know HE loves us and forgives us and wants to save our souls. If we will just choose to walk through that door by letting JESUS in, HE will send HIS Holy Spirit to live and dwell in our spirits. This message is directed towards all men, women and children of all races, religions and He wants us to humble ourselves and repent and come as little children and receive the GIFT HE has for us. That gift is forgiveness and eternal life with HIM. The reason I am pursuing these goals is that I am a sinner just like the rest of the world and I know what GOD has brought me out of and the peace HE has given me in my life. HE has given me HIS compassion towards all people HE puts in my path. My prayer is that this composition will speak to the hearts of many unsaved people for salvation and knowing that JESUS CHRIST is the way the truth and the life and no one will come unto the FATHER except through HIM. We have faith in so many things in this world, but does this faith produce life and life more abundant, or is it a life with no hope. There is hope in JESUS. I know this from so much experience of HIS love and grace in my life and in many lives around me.
I will use rectangles, hearts and lines of great depth and contrast to reveal the light of this world which will portray HIS light, HIS radiant light. I want to use black and dark shades of gray to bring depth and directional force to the focal point. The contrast of the dark and light will reveal the darkness of this world and the light of JESUS CHRIST the hope of glory. I will use much directional force to point to the light. I will use volume and depth in the shapes that I choose, to hopefully bring them out in a way to draw the viewer to the message of hope that the focal point represents. I hope to implement diminishing sizes and overlapping to bring forth some of the depth and volume in this design. I will also use shading and perspective to help the design to look more real and dimensional. I will most likely use both flat and dimensional shapes.
I hope to use Gestalt laws to pull the viewer towards a certain direction. That direction will start from darkness and will ultimately reveal the light. One of the gestalt laws will be the law of familiarity. I will use the hearts as a relevant part of the message that these forms will portray. As we all are very familiar with the heart, because we all have one. There will be all shades of darkness revealing that no one in this world is either black or white but we all have shades of gray in between. GOD so desires to show us that we can become white as snow if we will only just believe what HE says to us in HIS WORD and open the door of our hearts. We all need some hope in this dark world. Please I beseech everyone to know the truth. The WORD of GOD says that you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. I also want to have positive and negative space. We also know that even the positive and negative space is relevant to the world we live in. The positive space being the good form that comes from the light in this world and the negative space which could possibly be the darkness of this world. I am not sure if this design will be symmetrical or asymmetrical as of yet. I will know more as I design this composition. I will probably implement translation through some repetition of shapes and also may use rotation and reflection depending on where the directional force leads in this design. I hope to bring forth unity and balance in this attempt to create this form from the message that moved me to design this composition. As unity fits in with what GOD wants for this world. There will also be texture and color. The colors I will probably be using in the end project are hues of red and gold and obviously black and white and shades of gray in between to get the effect that the message wants to reveal in this composition.
Some challenges I may face are how to get the effects I want to reveal in this design with the software programs I use. I plan to use Illustrator, but would like to use Photoshop also. I am not very familiar with the many tools and effects I can get from using the software as of yet. I have been getting familiar mostly with Illustrator through this course. I want so much to be able to learn more about these applications as I work on this final project for this course. I know what I have to do to reach the goals I have for this project, but I know I will have difficulties with the tools, but I know that practice makes perfect and that I will not let this deter me from the goals I have for this final composition. I will look for tutorials on line if I come across difficulties in creating the effects that the message is looking for. The only other challenge I may see, is in the message itself. I just know that this message is the most important message that anyone could receive in their lifetime. LORD, please help me with this design, because this one is for YOU! Please use it for your glory, honor and praise. My prayer is that it will speak to hearts everywhere.
